The first Independence Day took place on July 4th, 1776 – although at the time, no one really knew about it. In fact, John Adams had proclaimed that July 2nd would be our nation’s birthday, and with the exception of John Hancock’s famous signature, most founding fathers would not even sign the document until August 2nd. Still, the date on the Declaration of Independence is July 4th, and so that is the day we celebrate! From coast to coast and throughout Albuquerque, people will attend picnics, parades, parties, and fireworks displays, all to commemorate the special freedoms we enjoy here in America.

Celebrate Like a Local: Balloon Fiesta Park will be buzzing with excitement as the annual Freedom 4th takes place beginning at 3 p.m. Enjoy the largest firework show in the state, food, local beer in the Microbrew Garden and free children activities. Headliner Clint Black leads a lineup of live music, and admission is free.
